Burn Our Bodies Down by Rory Power

  • Publication Date: July 7, 2020
  • Publisher: Delacorte Press
  • Genre: Young Adult & Horror

Burn Our Bodies Down is the second best book by Rory Power after Wilder Girls. I was so excited to read it. An incredibly creepy story of Margot whose only family was her Mother. When Margot comes across photo of her mother as a child with an inscription on the back written in an elegant hand, she thinks she finally has what she’s yearned so much for: a grandmother.

Margot goes to trace her family in Phalene, she struggles there but tries to keep up. But is the family name worth it? Was her mother hiding something? Definitely and now that she’s there, she might never escape.

Burn Our Bodies Down is a slowly-unfolding family saga through the eyes of Margot. Read it to see how things are not right in Phalene and in her grandmother’s house. Even Margot acknowledges something is off, but the heartbreaking way she longs for someone to love her unconditionally overshadows all common sense.

Jennifer Honeybourn has come again with an engaging young adult book about a girl, Emilia who gets to Do over her life as she regrets a decision she took six months ago on an unfortunate night.

I was drawn to the main character, Emilia whose choice had some repercussions which she deeply regretted every single day. It’s an engaging, light read and makes you think- ‘be careful about what you wish for’!
